Working with Australian NGO Living Child, AWF Network Partner SJB has designed a community centre for training and health promotion activities in the East Sepik region of Papua New Guinea.
Servicing a region of approximately 6000 people, the community centre will provide a base for health volunteers and Village Birth Attendants to train and upskill, accommodation for expectant mothers and their families, and space for other NGOs to run workshops in farming, education, and income-generating activities.
Buying building materials requires a 7-12 hour each-way boat and car journey to Wewak, so the community centre will utilise a mix of modern and traditional construction techniques and materials.
