Badu Art Centre is one of Australia’s foremost Indigenous Art Centres, and Badu artists, including Alick Tipoti, are internationally recognised. The Centre creates opportunity for Badu Island people to express their art and in doing so increase and strengthen the awareness of Badu Island culture.
AWF, SJB and Tract helped Badu Arts Centre develop a program brief for a safer, better ventilated, more climate and community responsive building, including workshops, metal casting facilities, a keeping place for cultural materials, an outdoor ceremonial space and gallery.
SJB and Tract then developed guidelines for minimum site areas, appropriate topography, site access and outlook, community connectivity and access to services.
Badu Arts Centre will use this information to consult with the community and local Native Title representatives about opportunities to upgrade, grow or relocate the facility.
