Building resilience in a historic mining town
After an intensive multi-day on-site charrette, AWF Network Partner Tract Consultants has prepared a detailed Analysis and Scoping Plan for the Walhalla Board of Management.
The historic Gippsland gold mining town of Walhalla faces challenges with flood damage to the banks of Stringers Creek and nearby campgrounds, tourism pressures on built and natural infrastructure, strict limitations on wastewater treatment, and limited accommodation.
The Board of Management approached AWF to investigate ways the Crown assets they manage could be used to increase the capacity and resilience of the entire town. Tract's report clarifies the Board's existing challenges and strategies and forms a starting point for the Board to conduct further detailed site investigations and obtain funding to appoint design consultants.
