The flood mitigation project at Numbu Community Primary School, Solomon Islands has taken a significant step forward thanks to pro bono assistance from aerial spatial and visual data specialist, Kahuto Pacific and surveyor Azimuth Surveys.

Through their Pacific Impact Initiative, Kahuto Pacific has donated more than AUD$12,000 worth of LiDAR aerial data to the project, with Azimuth working on site to establish ground control.
LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote-sensing technology that uses laser beams to measure distances and create high-resolution models of the environment. Lasers can be mounted on drones or piloted aircraft.
This data will help AWF Network Partners BKK Architects, Reeves Envico and pro bono civil engineer MCG Consult assess causes and develop solutions to regular run-off flooding at the school and develop a master plan for future growth.
Thanks to the generosity of these Partners and pro bono supporters, the 200+ students and 9 teachers at the school will soon be able to study in safe, dry classrooms.
