Maasai Girls Rescue Centre

A significant milestone for the Maasai Girls Rescue centre.

The first group of 60 girls are settling into their new homes at the Maasai Girls Rescue Centre eco-village in Karatu, Tanzania.

MGRC contacted Architects Without Frontiers in 2020 with a proposal to develop a 15-acre eco-village with safe, comfortable accommodation for up to 120 at risk Maasai girls and their house mothers.

Master planned by AWF Network Partner Clarke Hopkins Clarke, the eco-village will ultimately grow to include a pre-school, a career centre, dining hall, sports field and running track, and a farm with livestock barns and gardens.  On-site eco-lodges for volunteers, visitors and tourists will provide social enterprise opportunities for the local community.

MGRC provides a safe and nurturing environment for the most at-risk Maasai girls who are orphaned and/or living in abusive conditions.
