AWF’s Founding Director, Professor Esther Charlesworth AM has received a Scholar award from the Fulbright Foundation.

As well as her work with AWF, this award recognises Esther’s development of the MoDDD degree, her pioneering books on the sub-discipline of humanitarian architecture, and her AHURI and ARC research on contributions of design to the liveability of remote Indigenous settlements in Australia.

Esther’s Fulbright Project, "Design for the Other 92%", will explore building career pathways for architects seeking to transition their careers into the humanitarian and design not for profit sectors across the USA and Australia. Architecture is often seen as elite discipline for the top 8% of the population, leaving the remaining 92% in most need of the design of culturally appropriate and affordable housing, with least access to it.
